Thinking Outside the Strike Zone: Predictive Analytics and Baseball

Speaker: John Dewan

While some may prefer to keep work and play separate, others have found ways to apply their actuarial skills and knowledge to the hobbies they enjoy most. John Dewan will present an exciting and informative webinar on how he applies his knowledge of predictive analytics to the sport he loves most, baseball.

This webinar is John’s second webinar with ACTEX where he will explain, in detail, the process of developing player performance projections. John will thoroughly explain this extensive task by explaining what data is chosen and used, and how predictive analytics is applied. As John will explain, the techniques used in his work change every year based on a variety of variables.

In addition, John will also cover:

  • Specific examples of the applications of data mining and actuarial science to baseball
  • Areas of overlap between actuarial science and sports analytics
